The Willies: a dramatic mix of intelligent
pop and melodious rock. Serious and funny, familiar and fresh, polished
and raw, The Willies are masterminded by Damon Pipitone, who helms this
unit of creative musicians, carving their beat signature into the languid
arm of today's pop culture. |

© 1998Review for Dark Guitar: "…The Willies’ mastermind Damon Pipitone's dark, cynical, wickedly funny soul gets revealed in every track, and it has a sensual, resonating voice. I was a goner from track one…The dark lyrics often contrast with beautiful music. 'Your Deadbeat' is a good example, (which is) jeering over playful pop/rock. I also like the upbeat, 60s-folky delivery over wickedly jolting lyrics in 'Sometimes Things Just Don’t Work Out'. My favorite tracks are the mystic, cosmic ones. 'Right Wrong' has rippling underwater chords, gorgeous harmonies, and a 60s feel. Trippy, lush, and spiritual. …True to that eclectic, spontaneous nature that keeps me wondering what he’ll do next, Pipitone gives us tracks that may not sound like the others but fire another adrenaline shot to the soul. See him live, west coast indie fans! Jennifer Layton, indie-music.com [More album reviews] [Band Review] |
